SCULPTURAL FORMS IN WOOD | SCOTLAND
I get get my inspiration from the natural landscape, mostly from coastal or mountain landscapes.
This piece was inspired by Victorian pen and ink drawings of seed pods.
The wood is spalted Sycamore which has been sitting on my log pile for about three years.
The initial form was turned on my lathe and was shaped to its final form by hand using gouges and mallet.
The wood was scorched, using a gas blow torch and then the excess carbon was removed by brush and water.
When dry, the wood was treated with boiled linseed oil and turpentine, followed by several coats of Beeswax.
